I'm on a mission to live a life less complicated. Life sort of gave me a nudge in this direction a couple of years ago, when the love of my lifedecided to begin a career in real estate. This was absolutely the right career move for him... he's great at it. But the first couple of years were very challenging financially (he happened to choose the worst market ever to begin this career). I'm happy to report that business has been steadily picking up, and thanks to the first time buyers tax credit and low interest rates, he's busier than ever.
So... we had to learn to be more frugal, and live with less stuff. And guess what? We did fine without so much stuff. We didn't need to go out to dinner 3-4 nights a week to be happy. We didn't need to run out and buy the latest techie gadget... we were still happy. Of course it was tough sometimes - depressing even. But it's a huge moment when you realize you can be quite happy with a picnic by the water.
During this time, we also learned a lot about our impact on the environment. And that being "green" also means being "frugal" most of the time. We stopped buying bottled water, started buying items with less packaging, and did things like replace our light bulbs with CFLs and spend more time in the bulk aisle.
My interest in taking better care of the planet led to learning about the chemicals used in so many foods, packaging and cleaning products. I wanted to learn how to live with less chemicals. I have so much more to learn.
I've been lugging around a bunch of extra weight in the last couple of years. I could blame it on lots of things... my warped metabolism, fatigue, low protein and too many carbs (after 2 years of being a pasta, rice and bread vegetarian), inactivity.... but it doesn't matter why. What matters is that I need to be carrying around less weight.
Something I've learned about my inner self is that I need to be surrounded by positive people. Negativity seriously brings me down and I don't tend to be able to have productive relationships with those types of people. For years now, I've been living a life with less negativity.
I intend to share new products that I come across, healthy recipes that taste great, any new tips I learn to help keep the planet alive, or techniques to deal with negativity. This blog is about my continuing quest to live a more simple life... a Life Less Complicated.
